Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the Australian man pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further response on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected friendship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
