Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
