Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
