Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Each team has just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
