Catherine's Yearly Christmas Musical Celebration Honours Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The theme of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.
A Gradual Return
The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.
A Family Affair
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.
The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
