A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
